The KRCA is one of the best remaining areas of Cape Flats Sand Fynbos, and as such it supports an exciting variety of fauna and flora. It hosts around 306 indigenous plant species, 11 amphibians, 17 reptiles, 80 birds and at least 10 mammals.

The two species that have everyone captivated are the Erica verticillata, which is listed as extinct in the wild and has been reintroduced into a number of sites in Cape Town; and the critically endangered Micro-frog, one of the smallest frogs in southern Africa.
